Robin Casey

Robin was born in British Columbia just after WWII, to a Dutch war bride and a Canadian soldier.  He grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with a sister and 4 brothers, and as a young adult studied Biochemistry, and later Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.  Robin’s professional work involved caring for children and adults with metabolic genetic diseases, in addition to related teaching and research in the area.  Many of those metabolic diseases contributed to progressive mental handicap and/or premature death in those affected. Robin worked at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary.

At the age of 73, Robin was diagnosed with vascular dementia, a consequence of several strokes and 58 years of Type I Diabetes.  He welcomed the opportunity to join EPLED in the summer of 2024.

Robin’s first wife passed away in 1992 and he now lives with his second wife in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta.  He enjoys visits with his two sons and their families, and there’s always a dog or two in the household.

Research Interests

In his role in EPLED, Robin hopes to make use of his skills and learning from past work as a clinical investigator in order to be actively involved with those doing dementia research.  Robin looks forward to being part of the EPLED community and projects.
